Empress Isle

Thousands of years ago a great civilization called the Shabrytians inhabited the tiny islands which make up Archipelago Wild.  They were a magical race who loved the ocean and left behind few traces of their existence.

Why they left, or where they went is a mystery.  Clues lay scattered about the area in the beautiful wall paintings of Sanctuary Cave as well as the Lighthouse ruins which are open to all the residents of Second Life to explore.

The Empress Arikinui Adria, believed to be a descendant of the magical race, lives on the largest of the islands with her husband.  Together they have worked to restore as much of the ruins as possible and stand as guardians over the region until the Shabrytians return....if they ever do.

   What we know:
Archeologists have excavated the sites to uncover the many artifacts left behind when they abandoned their city.  Research is ongoing and clues are slowly being pieced together.

~ They had a very complicated writing system which has only recently been deciphered.  When touring the sites, click on objects and cave paintings to find the interpretations and significance of the artifact.

~ The Lighthouse still retains the brilliant light it had the thousands of years ago when the original inhabitants lived here.  The source of the light as well as it’s chemical make up remains mystery.  Many believe that the light is magical, although scientists have tried for many years to debunk this theory.  They have been unsuccessful.

~ Sanctuary Cave is both natural and Shabrytian made.  This means that the previous inhabitants made improvements to an existing cave and used it as both a worship area and where residents found shelter during storms.  The paintings and writings found within the cave are thousands of years old and show that the Shabrytians had not only a complicated system of writing, but they also held the sea creatures and their own royalty in high regards.

                         Empress Isle FAQ & Policies

Q: Why is no nudity allowed on Empress Isle or Archipelago Wild?
A: All public areas in the region are PG only.  This is for the comfort of all visitors.  Any nudity or sexual activity is prohibited.  If you feel that these restrictions are too confining for you, then go to a sex club.  A changing area is provided should you need to change into a swimsuit or into your mermaid AV (or whatever other reason you may need to change your appearance).

Arikinui Adria and her husband make their home here.  Please be respectful of this fact and abide by the rules.

Q: If building is enabled, why will I get banned if I build something?
A: Building is enabled on Empress Isle and the other public areas of the region so that visitors can rez boats or other water vehicles, toys etc....  This is not your personal sandbox where you can use all of our prim resources at your discretion.

Q: Can I bring my gigantic pirate ship and sale it around?
A:  Yes!  In fact we highly encourage visitors to bring any and all water craft.  I love to check out the interesting boats and ships our visitors have.

Q: Can I have a party here?
A: Absolutely!  Just remember the PG rating of public areas.  If you need to rez or build additional items for your gathering, please IM Arikinui Adria for permission and to let the owners know about the event so there will be no problems/misunderstandings.

Q: Where did you come up with the Shabrytian civilization?
A: I was a Research Archeologist/Art Historian in RL and I’ve studied many formative and ancient cultures including the Sumerians, Minoans, Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, Olmecs, Mayans, and even African and North American native cultures.  The Shabrytians are a combination of many of these cultures.  The idea was simply to create an interesting archeological site where visitors could come and explore.

Q: Is that Greek, Linear A/B, Mayan, Mesopotamian ....etc writing?
A: No.  It’s plain gibberish.  Using Photo Shop I drew a bunch of squiggly lines and dots to look like they *could* be ancient writing. (See previous answer for more info).

Q: Who did all of the building?
A. Me.  Everything on the island and in the public areas of Archipelago Wild were envisioned and created by me.  Some of the textures were purchased at Textures R Us.  Some of these were then modified by adding dark areas, moss and whatnot to make them looked aged.  The writings and cave drawings were created by me.

Q: Who pays for/supports Empress Isle?
A: Me again.  Thanks to the success of my shop Nuclear Boutique, I’ve been able to keep Empress Isle open for the public.  It’s my way of helping residents of Second Life enjoy this virtual community and having a nice place to come relax.

Empress Isle, as it was, no longer exists.  It is my hope that we will purchase another island this year and devote a large portion of it to Empress Isle and the Shabrytian culture.  Until then, I invite you to visit the beautiful scenery and take a relaxing boat ride among the wild life at Archipelago Wild.
